Connective tissue
Connective tissue
Features:
- loose arrangement of cells
- the presence of an intercellular substance which contains the basic substance, collagen protein fibers and elastic fibers
- maintains connectivity between different tissues
Connective tissue proper
Dense connective tissue
- it consists of various types of cells and an intercellular substance that contains collagen fibers
- this tissue builds: tendons, ligaments, dermis
Adipose tissue
- it consists of fat-filled cells
- is divided into yellow and brown adipose tissue
YET (yellow adipose tissue):
- it occurs in adults
- stores spare substances
- has a shock-absorbing and thermal insulation function
BAT (brown adipose tissue)
- occurs in newborns
- has a thermoregulatory function
- occurs in animals during hibernation -> is necessary to obtain energy and warm up
Cartilage
SOURCE
- it consists of cartilage cells that occur in cartilage pits and the intercellular substance
- it is very flexible and durable thanks to protein fibers
- this tissue builds: the auricle, elements of the larynx, and the nasal septum
- connects some bones, such as the ribs to the sternum, and covers the articular surfaces of the bones
Bone
- it consists of bone cells and intercellular substance
- hardness is given by mineral salts (including calcium salts) which are found in the intercellular substance
- bone elasticity is provided by collagen fibers
- this tissue builds the skeleton
Blood
SOURCE
- consists of cellular components (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets) and intercellular substance (plasma)
- transports substances between different organs
- is involved in the body's immune reactions
